Ideas for Marketing a Home Based Business
Big businesses draw in clients through commercials, billboards and magazine advertisements, but home based business owners are unlikely to have the resources for such methods of marketing. It is important for small, home based business owners to look at their product and carefully determine the best venues in which to market their ideas. Here are some general guidelines for marketing a home based business.
Stick It Where It Counts: Post small advertisements in places where potential clients will be. For example, if you are advertising for a daycare run out of your home, then post fliers in supermarkets, neighborhoods and on child care websites. A freelance writer may choose to post advertisements in office buildings, or to contact businesses directly with details on her services listed in letter form.
Network: Invest in a set of business cards, and make those cards useful. A home based wedding planner, for instance, may be interested in printing a wedding checklist on the back of his or her cards. Ebay vendors may want to provide a coupon for free shipping on an item. Make it necessary for potential customers to look at the business card and remember your name.
Provide Excellent Customer Service: Be loyal to your customers, and provide them with individualized service. They will certainly remember you and appreciate the extra effort you have put into providing them with an excellent product. As long as you make it clear that you are there to help them, then providing them with advertisements in the future will not come off as pushy or rude.
